Moulton announces run for state senate

Chippewa Falls (Press Release) - On Thursday, former State Representative and local small businessman Terry Moulton filed the necessary paperwork to begin a run for the 23rd Senate District seat currently held by Sen. Pat Kreitlow (D-Chippewa Falls).
Moulton, who represented the 68th Assembly District from 2005-2009 pointed to the state's job climate as his main reason for running. "This campaign can't just be about the candidates. It has to be about jobs. Wisconsin is losing jobs while the current legislature is raising taxes and increasing costs and regulations on employers. We can't sit by and let things continue to go down the tubes."
Wisconsin has lost more than 130,000 jobs in the past year. In its most recent rankings, Forbes Magazine ranked Wisconsin the third worst state to do business in. That is down five spots from the previous year. At the same time, the current Senate majority has increased taxes by almost $5 billion.
"As a small businessman I am seeing first hand the effects of this economy. For our state legislators to pass more tax increases and laws that hurt job creation is really troublesome," Moulton said. "We have to turn this state around and soon, or it will just get harder and harder to bounce back."
Along with the tax and fee increases, the recently enacted budget also included dozens of policy provisions, many of which are now going into effect. Some of these changes are turning out to be very costly, including auto insurance premium increases of 30% or more.
"The light is now shining on much of the policy that was buried deep in the budget. A new phone tax, energy tax, auto insurance premium increases, pending property tax increases-it all adds up," Moulton said. "Madison can't keep nickel-and-diming Wisconsinites and expect it not to hurt."
Moulton was first elected in 2004 and served as Chairman of the Assembly Small Business Committee and Vice-Chair of both the Health and Health Care Reform Committee and Natural Resources Committee.
Moulton has lived in the Chippewa Valley nearly his entire life. He owns and operates Mouldy's Archery and Tackle in the Village of Lake Hallie. He is married to his wife of 42 years, Sue Kay. They have two grown children and eight grandchildren.
